Play it Loud! // Breaking Norms

Categories: Play it Loud!.

Translation Priorities: Optional.
As a response to gender imbalances, Jeunesses Musicales International and its partners created the project “Play it LOUD!”, a 2-year process funded by the European Union programme Erasmus+ and by the European Youth Foundation. Play it LOUD! Aims to contribute to a more equal and diverse music sector by expanding knowledge on the barriers and for participation, and proposing key mindsets and practices to foster participation of currently underrepresented groups, such as women and non-binary people.
Gender Equality is a UNESCO’s global priority and a necessary step to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. While gender equality is a fundamental human right, there is still much work to be done to reach this goal in all walks of life, as well as in the music industry.
BREAKING NORMS is the closing event of the European Union programme “Play It LOUD” held in Budapest, Hungary. On this one-day mini conference the challenges and coping strategies towards gender equality will be introduced, uncovered, and discussed by the panelists and participants together. While celebrating the results of this project, the goal of the gathering is to provide information and support those like minded individuals in Hungary who are also looking to make a difference in gender equality. While this particular event will focus on dismantling the status quo in the music industry, the practical questions such as “How to have difficult conversations” may be useful for anyone interested in norm critical approaches in general. The panelists are distinguished thinkers and doers in the field of gender equality from Europe
